case study
AI Compliance Checker
An AI-assisted compliance review workspace that evaluates proposed AI use cases against a defined policy framework and produces structured, auditable risk reports.

overview
An end-to-end compliance analysis application built around a tool-using Claude workflow. It combines model-assisted policy analysis with deterministic risk controls, server-side report validation, explicit human review, and an audit trail. The system is designed to make the AI's output reviewable and bounded rather than treating a model response as an authoritative compliance decision.
architecture
Next.js / React frontend → Nginx reverse proxy → Express / TypeScript API → Anthropic Claude tool-use workflow and Prisma / PostgreSQL persistence, orchestrated with Docker Compose. Server-sent events stream assessment progress and tool activity to the client.
engineering focus
- Combining probabilistic model reasoning with deterministic application rules and schema-validated output.
- Designing an observable AI workflow with streaming progress, token / latency / cost tracking, and persisted audit events.
- Treating prompt injection and sensitive data as application-level security concerns, not only prompt-writing problems.
- Separating AI recommendations from explicit human-review decisions and enforcing review-state transitions on the server.
- Operating a multi-service TypeScript application with Docker Compose, Nginx, Express, Prisma, and PostgreSQL.
highlights
- Claude tool-use workflow for policy lookup, data classification, risk analysis, and structured assessment reports across eight defined policy requirements.
- Deterministic baseline risk scoring kept independent of model output, with server-side normalization to constrain unsupported compliance claims and validate citations.
- Prompt-injection guardrails and sensitive-value redaction before model processing, with bounded tool calls, report sizes, and assessment execution.
- Server-sent events for live progress, tool activity, and web-research updates during an assessment.
- Persistent assessment history, versioned reports, human-review decisions, audit events, and PDF report export.
- Administrative views for assessment review, usage and cost tracking, user management, and audit history.
project context
Prototype demonstrating an AI-assisted review workflow. Assessment evidence is explicitly limited to requirements-only scope: the system does not ingest evidence documents or independently verify real-world compliance.
